Last night, Senator Bailey attended more events in Annapolis related to issues of importance to District 29. First, Senator Bailey addressed the annual Historic St. Mary’s City Reception. This reception was an opportunity for representatives of the Historic St. Mary’s City Commission and Historic St. Mary’s City Foundation to meet with lawmakers and share their priorities for this legislative session. In addition to speaking at the reception, Senator Bailey was able to sign a peg that will be added to a replica of the Dove in St. Mary’s City. Along with yesterday’s District 29 reception, this was another great opportunity for members of the St. Mary’s County community to meet Maryland’s Senators and Delegates. Later, Senator Bailey attended a meeting of the Tri-County Council in Annapolis. The Tri-County Council works on issues that affect all three Southern Maryland counties – Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties. Through this multi-county collaboration, the Council works to advance the interests of the entire Southern Maryland region.
Also in Annapolis yesterday, the Maryland Historical Trust Board of Trustees presented their annual Maryland Preservation Awards for extraordinary efforts to preserve and enhance historic places, archaeological sites, and cultural heritage. We are proud to report that one of these awards was presented to our very own Historic Sotterley, who was recognized for their “Building Bridges to Common Ground” program. Historic Sotterley is located in Hollywood, and is one of the many important historic sites in our district that host events year-round on their grounds.
