Day 1 – New Leadership

Today was the first day of the 2020 Legislative Session. Senator Bailey is excited to be back in Annapolis to work with the District 29 Team to serve the residents of St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties in the Senate of Maryland. Senator Bailey was joined in Annapolis today by his wife Karin Bailey, who serves as the Chair of the St. Mary’s County Board of Education and Cathy Allen, who serves as the Vice Chair of the St. Mary’s County Board of Education.

The first floor session is focused on the election of officers, including the President of the Senate. The Senate unanimously voted for Senator Bill Ferguson to serve as the new President of the Senate, succeeding Senator Thomas V. “Mike” Miller, who had honorably led the Senate as President for over 30 years. Senator Ferguson met with Senator Bailey in November at Senator Bailey’s district office in Hollywood to discuss issues of importance to District 29 and what the General Assembly can do to help meet the needs of our District and our State as a whole. Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford also addressed the Senate on behalf of Governor Hogan to welcome the Senators back to Annapolis.

Senator Bailey looks forward to staying connected with constituents this session. Please do not hesitate to reach out to his office to share your opinion on the issues that impact our District and our State. You can voice your thoughts by emailing Senator Bailey at jack.bailey@senate.state.md.us. Senator Bailey will continue to provide updates on his work in Annapolis during this session of the General Assembly.
