Today was a great day to celebrate District 29 in Annapolis! Senator Bailey, along with Delegates Clark, Crosby, and Morgan, welcomed members of the St. Mary’s and Calvert County communities to the Senate Office Building for the First Annual District 29 Luncheon. Last year, Senator Bailey had the idea to host an event in Annapolis during the Legislative Session to introduce the people of District 29 to Senators, Delegates, and other officials from all parts of Maryland. This event was the culmination of several months of work that involved many people throughout our district. The luncheon included representatives from the St. Mary’s County and Calvert County Governments, as well as from Naval Air Station Patuxent River, the Calvert Marine Museum, Dominion Energy, St. Mary’s College, the College of Southern Maryland and the University of Maryland’s Unmanned Air Systems Test Site. These organizations were able to speak with legislators and share all that they offer to not only Southern Maryland, but to our entire state.
The luncheon was extremely popular, with approximately 300 legislators, staff, and members of the public in attendance who were able to see the great things our district has to offer. The members of the General Assembly who spoke to Senator Bailey gave overwhelmingly positive feedback, making the event incredibly successful. This luncheon would not have been possible without the hard work of all of the participating institutions, as well as Senator Bailey’s staff.
At the luncheon, the St. Mary’s County and Calvert County Delegations were able to honor the Teachers of the Year from St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties. The St. Mary’s County Teacher of the Year is Jennifer Cord from White Marsh Elementary School, and the Calvert County Teacher of the Year is Dr. Nathan Kimbro from Huntingtown High School. The teachers were also honored with Senate resolutions during the day’s floor session.
