District 29
Encompassing all of St. Mary’s County and the southernmost regions of Calvert County, our district is surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers, which gives rise to substantial farming, fishing, and crabbing communities. District 29 holds some of our State’s most rich history, geographical attractions, and technological innovation. Traditionally known as the home of St. Mary’s City, Maryland’s first capital, District 29 possesses deep historical significance—holding roles in the first European settlement of Maryland, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
Today, our District serves as a hub for technological advancement, boasts rapid economic development and is home to over 130,000 residents. Naval Air Station Patuxent River (NAS PAX River) is located in St. Mary’s County and is a key driver in our Southern Maryland economy. NAS PAX River is also the second largest employer in Maryland. NAS PAX River has contributed to Forbes (2019) stating that this area of Maryland possesses the highest percentage of STEM jobs in the country. It has been my honor to represent District 29 in the Maryland State Senate since 2019 and I look forward to continuing to work for this incredible community.
